Our Dental Sedation Options
There are a few different sedation options that we offer depending on the situation and the patient’s needs.
Laughing Gas
Nitrous Oxide, also referred to as laughing gas, is administered with a mask and takes effect quickly. It helps to create strong feelings of relaxation and happiness while leaving the patient awake and aware.
Oral Sedation
Oral Conscious Sedation is another sedation method that doesn’t make use of needles. Oral medication is provided that puts the patient into a dreamlike state.
General Anesthesia
General Anesthesia is administered with an IV and is best used for more serious procedures. It makes sure that the patient will be completely asleep for the duration of the treatment.
Hospital General Anesthesia
Hospital general anesthesia is a technique used to put a patient into a deep sleep during dental procedures. This method is particularly beneficial for patients who are unable to undergo treatment in a traditional dental setting due to severe anxiety, special needs, or extensive dental work requirements.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Sedation Dentistry Safe?
With the proper precautions, dental sedation is a safe and effective way to make a dental experience enjoyable. Some medical conditions and other issues can make dental sedation a higher risk for some patients. To make sure that dental sedation will be safe for your child, we’ll take time to review their medical background. After the ideal form of sedation has been decided on, we continue to monitor their vitals throughout the procedure.
Can Sedation Dentistry Make You Sick?
Many patients are concerned about possible side-effects of dental sedation, but most people won’t experience any side effects at all. Nitrous Oxide can cause light nausea after the sedation effect wears off, so it’s best not to take on an empty stomach. While oral conscious sedation doesn’t generally put people to sleep, it can cause drowsiness during and after the visit. Other minor symptoms can include headaches or dizziness. If your child seems to have an unexpected reaction to dental sedation reach out to our office for guidance.
