Metal Braces
If you had metal braces as a child, you may remember them looking bulky or feeling sharp and uncomfortable. Today’s metal braces are designed to be far sleeker and less noticeable on the teeth so that patients can achieve a straighter smile comfortably. Metal braces shift teeth and keep them in their ideal positions 24/7, and they are not removable, so patients do not have to worry about losing them or not wearing them often enough. Conventional metal braces can also be used to treat virtually every orthodontic issue, even complex or rare problems.
Invisalign® Clear Aligner Therapy
Invisalign is a popular orthodontic method and one of the biggest clear aligner brands in the world. This is because Invisalign clear aligners are thick enough that they are comfortable against the teeth and gums but thin enough that they are still very clear and discreet. Invisalign does not come with any food or activity restrictions, as patients can remove their aligners for a few hours per day and still keep their treatment plans on track. Many patients are able to complete their treatment in an average of only 12 to 18 months!
Which is better? Braces vs Invisalign
Neither orthodontic option is objectively better than the other. There are pros and cons to both, and patients ultimately decide to pursue one choice over the other for a variety of different reasons. If your child is still young and not quite ready to handle the responsibility of keeping track of removable clear aligners, metal braces may be the way to go. If your child loves crunchy and chewy foods like popcorn, caramel candy, and gum, then clear aligner therapy could be a much better for them. We’d be happy to discuss their options with you during their orthodontic consultation.
